It was built between 1902 and 1930 in two phases: the first by Domènech himself, between 1902 and 1913, it consists of thirteen Modernist buildings; the second was made by his son Pere Domènech i Roura from 1920, it consists of six buildings of moderate modernism and other later buildings. With its main building and its numerous pavilions, the Hospital of St. Paul is one of the largest collections of Catalan modernist architecture. Although it failed to build all the original project, the notoriety of it was recognized with several awards and the nomination as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.
